A partial one-way system will once again be introduced to Forfar’s Castle Street, starting from next Monday.
Motorists are reminded that, as from June 27, traffic will only be able to travel one-way southwards between Canmore Street and Myre Road.
This will help traffic to flow more freely on this narrow stretch of Castle Street and improve one of Forfar’s busiest shopping areas.
Temporary signage to warn drivers about the introduction of the new one way system will be put in place ahead of the new system coming into effect.
Due to the new traffic system, vehicles exiting from Manor Street at the Castle Street junction will have to turn right.
Anyone parking their vehicle in Castle Street overnight on Sunday, June 26 is reminded to park their vehicles facing south.
As with all traffic management alterations of this kind, in the first few days of operation, extra care should be taken as drivers become aware of the new arrangement.
Calls for the re-introduction of the one-way system were made following a temporary one-way traffic flow during work to re-develop the town centre.
Whilst some felt the one-way system eased traffic congestion and made the town centre more appealing to pedestrians, local shop-keepers expressed concern that the new system would have a detrimental effect on their business.
