Kirriemuir Amateur Operatic Society (KAOS) starts rehearsals for its 2013 production of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ on Wednesday, October 17, in the Masonic Hall, The Roods, Kirriemuir, at 7.30 pm.
‘Fiddler’ is a popular show for musical numbers such as ‘Sunrise Sunset’, ‘If I were a rich man’, ‘Matchmaker Matchmaker’ and ‘Do you love me?’
It tells the story of Tevye and his family of wife and five daughters in Russia in 1905. Tevye wants to keep hold of his traditional Jewish lifestyle but his daughters have other ideas. Much of the story centres round finding husbands for the eldest three girls against a backdrop of Russian persecution.
The society chose to perform this show as it was felt it offers lots of opportunity for younger members (and older) to take lead roles. There are 19 parts in all plus dancers and chorus.
The society is especially keen to attract younger members as there are parts to be allocated for five young daughters and three suitors. The society welcomes all school pupils from second year upwards to be members of the society. Anyone interested should contact 01575 573938 for more information.
