One of the county’s top award-winning tourism venues, Piperdam Golf and Leisure Resort, has raised the stakes for runners competing in this year’s Angus Rotary Marafun on May 25.

In a bid to increase the amount of money raised for charity, Piperdam has announced its donation of a superb four-night mid-week break (Monday to Friday) in its top of the range four star Vegas Lodge which accommodates up to 12 people (four double rooms and two twin rooms).

This will be awarded to the Marafun team that raises most sponsorship money for the event’s main charity - the Ninewells’ Cancer Campaign.

Welcoming the news on Monday Forfar Rotary Club President Scott Ballantyne said: “This is a luxurious prize which I’m sure will encourage more teams to enter and collect as much sponsorship as possible for our main charity. We are truly grateful to Phil and Lynda Mullholland for contacting us and making this possible”.

Lynda Mulholland, director of Piperdam along with her husband Phil, said: We are really impressed with Forfar Rotary’s arrangements to make this an ‘all-Angus’ event because we know that companies from around the county are keen to support such a worthwhile cause.

“We are hoping to encourage as many teams as possible to compete and have some fun and at the same time raise as much cash as possible for this vital campaign”.

Phil added: “We are delighted to be associated with such a great event in the Angus calendar. What makes the event so special is that cancer affects so many families and we applaud the efforts of Forfar Rotary Club which has already raised around £150,000 for the campaign since the first Marafun in 2002. We are delighted that our involvement might help to encourage everyone to get involved in an event that will ultimately benefit everyone in the community”.

David Russell, one of the Marafun committee members responsible for staging the event on May 25, added: “This is a great encouragement to everyone concerned and it really ups the stakes as we count down the last 30 days or so before the big event. It’s great to know that, thanks to the generosity of Piperdam, the team that raises the most cash will be rewarded so handsomely and have the opportunity to celebrate in style at Piperdam.”
