Opening on big screen

STRATHMORE Christian Fellowship of Kirriemuir invites visitors and residents to view the 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony through a 120 sq. ft. TV screen in Martin Park this Friday.

When the 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony takes place at the Olympic Stadium in London on July 27 the community of Kirriemuir will be watching the live show together on the big screen from 6 pm to 11.30 pm.

As well as the live screening of the London event, Kirriemuir will light its very own Olympic flame with an original Olympic torch.

There will be a free BBQ, performances from Sonnet 65 and We Are the Support Act, Kirriemuir pipe band, a skateboarding display, sport tasters and much more.

Organiser Anne Marie Pitt explains: “This is the first of two free events to be held in Kirriemuir organised by Strathmore Christian Fellowship.

“The first event is the live screening of the Opening Ceremony on July 27 and the second is a family fun day on August 11.

“The Olympic Games coming to the UK is a historic event” said Mr Andrew Inglis, Pastor of Strathmore Christian Fellowship, who is part of the organising committee.

“The church wants to host a community event that will bring people together to celebrate this national occasion and everyone is welcome”.

Community events like these are taking part all over the UK, organised by local churches under the banner of More Than Gold, an initiative set up by all the main church denominations.

The events in Kirriemuir are partly sponsored by Angus Council.
