Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochheadofficially opened the Strathmore Hall at Forfar Mart last Thursday.
The purpose built hall is part of a £600,000 investment in the Forfar facility.
The hall has been built primarily for market related events but will also be available for other uses and community use.
Mr Lochhead said: “Scotland’s auction markets have a proud heritage and continue to have a pivotal role to play in livestock marketing in Scotland.
“In 2010, our marts handled stock with a value of £483 million – this shows that the auction mart is more than holding its own in these challenging economic times.
“I’m sure Strathmore Hall here at Forfar Mart will be a welcome new facility for the many rural communities in this area, “ concluded Mr Lochhead.
