Numbers drop leaves Toddlers group struggling

A LOCAL toddler group is facing an uncertain future because it is currently running low in numbers of kids attending.

The Mothergoose Playgroup and Toddler Group meets at St. Margaret’s Hall in Lunanhead.

Although the playgroup is operating at near capacity in terms of numbers, the toddler group could be struggling to continue beyond Christmas.

Mothergoose chairperson Gail Longmuir explained that recently a large number of the children who attended the toddler group moved up to playgroup.

“We are now desperately looking for new youngsters for our toddler group.”

Toddlers run in term time on weekdays from 1.30 pm to 3 pm, with the playgroup meeting on Mondays from 9.15 am to 11.45 am and from 12.30 pm to 3 pm, and Tuesday to Friday from 9.15 am to 11.45 am.

“Mothergoose Toddlers work closely with the playgroup,” adds Gail.

“They share fund-raising, a sports day and summer outings, and the playgroup staff visit toddlers to assist with crafts/activities and to help promote a smooth transaction to playgroup if parents choose for their child to move on when they reach two and a half years. Children who attend toddlers on a regular basis also receive priority for places in the playgroup.

“If numbers do not improve by Christmas we will have to disband the toddler group part of Mothergoose which has been a great service over the many years it has run in the village.”
