The county’s top police officer has branded New Psychoactive Substances (NPS), or ‘legal highs’, “the new heroin” which even hardened drug addicts avoid.

In an exclusive interview this week, Chief Inspector Gordon Milne, head of policing in Angus, explains why NPS are becoming an increasing problem in the area and how Police Scotland is tackling it.

As part of a two-page special report on NPS, we also have comment from local MSPs on how the issue is being dealt with at Scottish Government and UK Government level following increasing country-wide concern about these substances, as well as local campaigners who have fought to close premises selling them in their communities.

Local people, local authorities, police and politicians are united in their opposition to NPS and you can find out why on pages 10 and 11.
