Plenty of characters have supported Forfar Athletic over the years and the Loons are excited to announce that from next season there will be another very special supporter at Station Park - a Bridie mascot!
The club hope to get the new season in League Two off to a fun start and have launched a competition for young Loons (and lassies) aged 12 or under to help find ‘Bridie’ a name.
The youngster who chooses the winning name will be invited to join the Bridie mascot at a first team match in the new season when he or she will get to run out onto the Station Park pitch with the players.
The lucky winner will also get a home replica kit as a memento of the occasion.
This new mascot has been made possible through the fantastic support of local bakers, McLaren & Son and Saddler’s of Forfar with help from Forfar based Utopia Costumes in sourcing the outfit.
The Loons are pleased that through the new mascot the club can help to promote a well-known Forfar product.
The Forfar Bridie Producers Association, a collaborative team made up of McLarens and Saddlers, are seeking European Protected Food Name status for the Bridie which would guarantee the Bridie’s provenance and will provide protection against imitation.
It is hoped that the introduction of this unique mascot will help this bid by raising awareness and demonstrating the town’s senior football club strongly supports this venture.
Bridie name entry slips and boxes were handed over to Karen Murray of McLarens and Michael and Morna Saddler of Saddlers by excited young Forfar supporters Michael and James Fitzgerald and Beau and Penny Taylor.
The competition will run until the close of the shops on Saturday, June 11 and the winner will be announced at the launch of the new Forfar home kit on Friday, June 24.
The club is keen to encourage as many people as possible to enter via the entry boxes in the four bakeries - Saddler’s in East High Street and North Street - and McLaren & Son at The Cross and in Market Street.
However, if any child is not able to get into one of the bakeries over the coming weeks they can contact the organisers at firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance in entering.
Any adult interested in getting behind the team for the new season by donning the Bridie mascot outfit on match-days should also contact the club at this email address.
