North East Region MSP Liam Kerr has tabled a motion at the Scottish Parliament to congratulate the East and Old Parish Church of Forfar for completing the first stage of a redevelopment project.

The Scottish Conservative MSP visited the church to meet the Minister, the Rev Barbara Ann Sweetin, on Monday and offer his support for the £250,000 renovation scheme.

Mr Kerr’s motion at Holyrood recognises the hours of work put in by a team of workers over the past 10 months to finish the first phase of the work.

A rededication service, led by Rev Sweetin, has taken place to mark the milestone in the process.

Mr Kerr said: “I was delighted to take the time to visit the church today and personally congratulate Rev Sweetin and the local congregation on the efforts so far.

“I have also tabled a motion at parliament to recognise the hard work that has gone into this project already and I hope that will be supported by MSPs from all political parties.

“Churches like East and Old Parish are truly at the heart of their communities and it is pleasing to see such a significant investment being made.

“Rev Sweetin and the wider congregation deserve great credit for persevering with the work, which has genuinely been a successful team effort.”
