MP meets group to discuss rural leadership

Angus MP Mike Weir met a group taking part in the Scottish Enterprise Rural Leadership Programme at Westminster this week. The group have visited the Scottish Parliament and the European Parliament as well as Westminster to see how politicians interact with rural issues.

Amongst the group was Kirriemuir based Scott Petrie of Scottish Land and Estates, who had contacted the Angus Member of Parliament to ask him to speak to the group.

Commenting on the meeting Mr Weir said he was delighted to meet to discuss rural issues: “I was very pleased to discuss a wide range of issues with the future leaders of rural Scotland. Questions ranged from what we did as Members of Parliament, through rural issues to questions regarding the Independence referendum.”

“I found the discussions very stimulating and worthwhile and it was good to get some views from the group, as well as their very acute observations on the differences between the three Parliaments and how they work.”

“Future Rural leadership is an excellent programme for developing the interests and skills of enterprising people in rural communities.

“The rural economy is vital for Angus and the whole of Scotland. It is very encouraging to see so many people taking part.”

Mr Weir is due to meet another group taking part in the programme at Westminster next week.
