AT a time when many local firms in the building industry are experiencing tough times, a Forfar-based roof truss company has expanded into Aberdeenshire.
Forfar Roof Truss Company Limited, based at Orchardbank Industrial Estate, on the outskirts of Forfar, has secured the design staff and ongoing business of a north-east company which recently fell into administration.
“We are delighted to announce the opening of new offices in Elgin and in Aberdeen city centre,” explains managing director Alan Hampton.
The move follows the demise of roof truss manufacturers RTC (Elgin) Limited.
“Manufacturing has now ceased in Elgin and all future manufacturing has now been moved to our factory at Orchardbank Industrial Estate, Forfar,” adds Mr Hampton. “RTC had a turnover of in excess of £2.5m last year, and it is hoped that the majority of this can now be manufactured in Forfar.”
Established in Forfar eighteen years ago, Forfar Roof Truss company views the acquisition of the RTC business as an opportunity.
“Operating in the building industry has been a challenge over the last two to three years, but we are rising to that challenge.
“We have attracted quite a bit of business from the north-east and felt having a base there will help us capitalise on local markets.
“We feel that the secret of success in these uncertain times is being small and very local.
“In Elgin and Aberdeen we will concentrate on design and administration, with the additional manufacturing work being undertaken here in Forfar.
“Hopefully, the extra work we will be taking on will lead to more jobs being created at our Orchardbank base.”
