The Retreat in Glenesk is the venue for a weekend of wonderful entertainment and creativity for the whole family, courtesy of Angus Arts.
This enterprising local charity is running workshops alongside the U.K.’s only ‘Puppet Theatre in a Caravan’ on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8.
Maria MacDonell, Co-Creative Director of Angus Arts, said: “We’re thrilled that The Little Fawn Theatre are returning to The Retreat with their wonderful, unique ‘Puppet Theatre in a Caravan’, the only one of it’s kind in the country. Last time they came to The Retreat the caravan was a huge hit with both children and adults alike.
“The atmosphere inside is really magical. The show this year is ‘The Pied Piper’ and the 20 minute long performances will run all day Saturday and Sunday.
“To complement the show on the Saturday we’re running a day-long drop in session for people of all ages and abilities to make their own tiny, magical puppets. You don’t need to pre-book for the show or the workshop, just turn up on the day.”
Maria continues “On the Sunday we have our fifth BIG adventure in the afternoon. ‘Dens, Nests and Mysterious Marvels’ will appeal to those who want to be creative and get some fresh air at the same time.
“Who knows what we’ll find there in the dark mysterious places where the sun doesn’t reach, or the clearings which can be full of sunshine.
“What we do know is that we will use what we find there to make marvellous constructions, big and small. It is advised to wear strong shoes and to bring gloves like gardening gloves for handling sticks and branches. Trousers are best too.
“Be prepared for all weathers and for making some brilliant creations. All ages are very welcome - children, young people, adults.”
‘The Pied Piper’ will run on September 7 and 8 with the 20 minute long performances running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the cost is £3 per person. The Puppet Making Workshop will also run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Saturday only, with tickets priced at £5.
‘Dens, Nests and Mysterious Marvels’ is on Sunday, September 8 from 2 to 4.30 p.m., meeting at 2 p.m. at The Retreat to be guided elsewhere.
Tickets cost £5 (under eights must be accompanied) with a family discount available.
