WITH the final preparations for TARGE slotting comfortably into place the conveners of each section of the show are confident that TARGE in Webster’s High School on Saturday will be the best ever.
The secretary Steve Rimmer is running the bring and buy and has already logged in thousands of painted figures to be sold on the ever popular stall.
Dedicated wargamers and the public alike love the chance to pick up a bargain and the Bring and Buy has bargains galore this year whether it is books, terrain or figures you are after.
The painting and modelling competitions have been a major feature of the show in Kirriemuir over the past twenty-five years with very high standards in all sections.
Run by another of the committee, Grahame Paterson, these competitions are open to the public and modellers are encouraged to bring their entries along on the day for a chance to win some of the £800 in prize monies and vouchers.
TARGE organiser Dale Smith has taken delivery of £400 worth of prizes in the last week alone and looks forward to the public responding with their painted figures, boats, planes, tanks and trains in any scales.
Catering for the day is in the capable hands of Treffers of Kirriemuir, who will provide hot and cold foods all day to help keep the armies marching.
With eighteen clubs demonstrating many aspects of the hobby and a traders arcade second to none, visitors to TARGE will get an entertaining insight onto the enthusiasm that grips the wargames genre.
Historical, science fiction and fantasy tables each offer a different slant with a bewildering array of scales and periods covered in great detail.
Newcomers to the hobby are assured of a warm welcome and those manning the participation and demonstration tables are always keen to chat about their displays.
Members of the Jacobite re-enactment group Crann Tara will also be on hand in period costume to demonstrate and tell the story of their period of conflict in Scotland.
Whether a dedicated wargames veteran, a member of the public browsing for unusual Christmas presents or merely the mildly curious, Kirriemuir Wargames Club, founded in 1985, looks forward to conducting you through three thousand years of human history - all in miniature of course.
The first two hundred through the door will each receive a free, limited edition figure of a late 17th century Scots Guard, designed and cast by the very talented club secretary Steve Shaw.
Be early to claim your free figure which celebrates the 25th annual show run by the club.
