Contact-the-Elderly charity groups in Forfar and Kirriemuir are looking for a few volunteers and elderly guests.
The groups offer friendship to lonely elderly people, who do not have much social contact, by taking them to monthly tea parties where they can meet people, chat and make new friends.
Volunteer drivers collect two or three elderly guests one Sunday a month and drive them to a volunteer host’s house for afternoon tea.
The outings make a tremendous difference and the drivers, hosts and guests really look forward to them. There are four groups in Angus and it is hoped these will increase in number.
Two or three drivers and hosts are being sought for the Forfar group. In Kirriemuir there are enough drivers but more hosts are needed urgently. More elderly guests would also be welcomed. Drivers need a clean licence and must have a PVG check which will be organised by the charity. Groups are normally around six to eight guests plus a couple of drivers. Guests should be over 75 without a lot of social contact. To find out more visit the website www.contact-the-elderly.org.uk or phone Jean Malcolm on 01356 660238.
