Relay routes revealed

More than 90 bearers have been named for the Queen’s Baton Relay which will pass through Angus on Saturday, June 28.

Nominated by their communities, the bearers will carry the baton containing the Queen’s message to The Commonwealth on its 80-mile route through the county.

Its 40-day journey through all 32 local authority areas will be the final leg of its journey which began at Buckingham Palace last October and has taken it through 70 Commonwealth nations and territories. The relay’s culmination will be the baton’s arrival at the Commonwealth Games’ opening ceremony in Glasgow on July 23.

The day will start in Monifieth at 8 a.m. and the baton will be carried to Carnoustie, East Haven and on to Arbroath where it will pass Arbroath Abbey. It will continue to Forfar where it is expected to arrive at around 1.14 p,m., Glamis at 2.46 p.m. and Kirriemuir/Northmuir at 3.56 p.m. and we have a full list of local baton bearers on page 3.

It will then visit Brechin and finish at Montrose with a community celebration. Councillor Jeanette Gaul, chairman of the Angus Games Steering Committee, congratulated all the bearers involved.
