Enterprising pupils at Forfar Academy are the latest recipients of the monthly £250 sponsorship cheque presented by the Forfar Roof Truss Company.

An application from fourth year pupil Kieran Dear caught the judges’ eye. In it Kieran describes an in-school club he runs alongside other S4 pupils.

He said: “The club is aimed at junior pupils, with the majority of the members being S1 pupils.

“We bring these people together to work on building a small, electrically powered car for the Greenpower formula 24 competition.

“The Formula 24 section of the Greenpower competition is for young people aged 11 to 16. Teams use cars, which they have built themselves, to take part in an endurance race in a regional heat (which will be at the Grampian Transport Museum, Alford). The top 75 teams then progress to compete at Goodwood Motor Circuit.”

Kieran explained the team currently has a car which is almost prepared for the competition - but they require some items to make it race-ready.

He continued: “We are missing one wheel, a BMX wheel, and wiring is needed. We can fit and wire the car, at least with help from our school’s technical department, but we cannot source the materials required for this and have severely limited funds. I hope you would be interested in sponsoring our team or making a donation so that we can acquire the necessary materials to complete our car and hopefully gain victory for Forfar Academy.”

The Forfar Roof Truss Company, in conjunction with the Dispatch and Herald, offers a monthly £250 sponsorship cheque. Send in your applications (300 words maximum) marked ‘Forfar Roof Truss Sponsorship Cheque’ to Angus County Press Ltd., 117-119 Castle Street, Forfar, DD8 3AH. The latest cheque was presented by Alan Hampton.
