With Christmas just four months away the local authority is preparing for the festive light displays in each of the towns.
The cost allocated to the entire county for Christmas lighting this year will be £132,000 to be taken from the ‘other services’ budget.
Funds will be taken from the individual communities and in some cases there will be contributions from the common good funds. In Forfar there will be some changes to the display for this year.
Alan McKeown, strategic director of communities, said: “The community, although satisfied with the extent of the lighting display, feel that there are still a number of features which look dated and would therefore like to improve some of these features.
“A list of all features has been prepared highlighting the faulty and dated items and this will be discussed with the community.
“A sum of £1,200 has been approved as part of the 2013/14 budget setting from the Forfar Common Good Fund.”
In Kirriemuir there is also a chance that more funding for lights will become available.
Mr McKeown continued: “The community are satisfied with the extents of the display but feel that if possible they would like to increase/improve within these extents and have indicated that some funds may be available to contribute to improve this year’s display.
“It is hoped that extra funding, along with the funding available from the other services budget can be used to provide an improved display in 2013.”
Elsewhere in Angus there are some changes ahead in Montrose which will have replacement features thanks to common good funding of £3,600 as well as a contribution from the other services budget and any possible extra funds from the community.
In Monifieth the display will remain the same with some replacement lights. A similar situation is in place in Carnoustie. The Brechin community will provide £5,025 to replace any faulty features with assistance from the common good fund on a matched basis if required. There are also plans to install a second Christmas Tree in the High Street which would be an additional expense.
