Help on hand following exam results

This year's exam results will be out on Tuesday, August 5.

This year's exam results will be out on Tuesday, August 5.

As the day looms for the arrival of this year’s exam results, pupils and parents are being urged not to panic and to be aware that help is available.

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is urging young people to call its free Exam Results helpline on 0808 100 8000.

Danny Logue, SDS’s operations director, said: “People may have done better than they anticipated or not achieved the results they hoped for, but the message is that there are options and they, and their parents, shouldn’t panic.

“The first step is to call the helpline and discuss all of the options that are available and there are lots of options open to them.”

As well as the helpline, advisers will be on hand for a number of Twitter Q&As on @mywowscotland to help young people access information and support. SDS’s Facebook page will also feature answers to common problems, links to other bodies including SQA, UCAS, SAAS and Young Scot and help on making sure the next move is a good one.

There is also a wealth of practical post results information for young people and their parents on SDS’s My World of Work website www.myworldofwork.co.uk

The helpline, now in its 22nd year, will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 5 and 6 and from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. until August 13.

Advisers will be available to offer information on UCAS course vacancies at UK colleges and universities, Confirmation and Clearing, advice on Modern Apprenticeship and training opportunities and exam resits.

The new National qualifications are designed to test a wider range of relevant skills and to prepare young people better for the modern workplace and National 2, National 3, National 4 and National 5 courses have been available since last year.
