Three Forfar Academy pupils have received a Saltire Award in recognition of their voluntary work with an innovative drama project.
Lori Simpson, Emily Milton and Rebekah Brown launched and ran their own drama group for youngsters with learning disabilities.
Supported by an adult volunteer, and Angus Council’s volunteer co-ordinator, the girls held drama sessions on the theme of bullying with young people who attend a local residential centre.
At the last session all those who took part in the group, along with parents and carers, gathered to meet and see photographs and videos of the drama sessions.
Councillor Glennis Middleton, the council’s social work and health convener, presented the girls with their Saltire Award at the event.
Supported by the Scottish Government, the awards are run by Young Scot in conjunction with Volunteer Scotland and Voluntary Action Scotland, and enable young volunteers to record the skills, experience and learning gained through volunteering.
They are designed to encourage, enable and reward youth volunteering and to make it easy for organisations to support young people to take part.
Mrs Middleton said: “This has been a fantastic project, with the girls giving up a lot of their own time to plan and organise their programme of drama sessions.
“The sessions promoted important messages about bullying in an informative but fun and interactive way, and I am delighted that their efforts have been recognised with a Satire Award.
“Young volunteers like Lori, Emily and Rebekah not only make a huge difference in their communities, but the skills and experience they gain prepare them for life outside school as they go into the world of work or further education.”
The girls themselves said how much they enjoyed and looked forward to the drama group each week, how much fun it was and how much they have learned from the experience. They passed on their thanks to everyone involved for the chance to make the project happen.
