The Angus Axis Gymnastics and Trampoline Club has been named the latest recipient of the Forfar Roof Truss Company £250 sponsorship cheque.

The club, which has gained the Angus Club of Excellence gold award, offers opportunities in a variety of gymnastics disciplines.

It is the sole club in Forfar and Kirriemuir offering men’s artistic gymnastics coaching. As part of its Active Schools programme it delivers lunch time gymnastics activities to children. Two of its male gymnasts have qualified for the national trampoline championships in 2012 and 2013 and two of its male gymnasts were placed first and fifth at a Scottish gymnastics floor and vault competition.

Head coach Wendy Milne said the club has developed at such a rate it now has over 50 members and a waiting list.

In her application she said: “We are in need of recruiting more volunteer coaches and require several qualified judges in order that we can maximise the number of children participating in gymnastics and enable the competitive gymnasts to attend competitions and events.”

Wendy gave a break-down of how the £250 sponsorship cheque could help the club move forward; £200 would enable one identified coach to attend a UKCC level 1 gymnastics coaching course; £300 would allow two to attend a women’s artistic gymnastics judge course and £260 would enable four attend a men’s artistic gymnastics judge course.
