The presentation of the latest Forfar Roof Truss Company sponsorship cheque came at a perfect time for the recipients, the Rising Youngstars.

For members of the junior theatre group take to the stage in the Reid Hall tonight (Wednesday) for their production of ‘Cinderella’.

In its application Ruth Nelson explained the Rising Youngstars is a community voluntary drama group for young people aged from four to 18.

The group brings the young people of the community together and helps build their confidence, friendships and teaches them the importance of working as a team.

She said: “We put on approximately two shows a year. In June we had a hugely successful production of ‘Annie’ in the town hall in Kirriemuir.

“The young people are currently working very hard in rehearsals for our next panto, ‘Cinderella’, which will be in the Reid Hall.

“Weekly rehearsals have been taking place since August and the cast is now rehearsing three times a week. As well as being very talented, these young people are incredibly dedicated.”

Ruth explained all the shows are put together by wonderful volunteers and grateful parents. They have a programme of fund-raising events throughout the year to help pay for the hire of the Reid Hall, lighting, sound and costumes.

She continued: “This year we are expecting to spend about £300 on costumes and are hoping to raise funds for the material to make these new costumes.

“Any help that you could give towards this would be so very gratefully received by the young people.”

The youngsters from the Forfar and Kirriemuir area will perform ‘Cinderella’ for three nights as well as a Saturday matinee at 2.30 p.m.

They have been busy putting the finishing touches during rehearsals in time for ‘curtain up’ tonight in what promises to be a great family show.

Tickets (priced £8 or £6 concessions) are available from Forfar Golf Driving Range; Garlands, Forfar The Star Rock Shop, Kirriemuir, or you can email RisingYoungstars@mail.com

If you think you, your group or organisation could use £250 then send in your application to our panel of judges (see story on the right).
