Not many people would expect young students to sign up for extra history lessons during the half-term break, but that is exactly what the Media and History Group from The Pitstop did recently.
Accompanied by project leader Dawn Mullady, the young researchers visited Dundee City Archives to research conditions in the jute factories and mills.
The young historians were keen to see evidence of child labour and the overcrowded tenements where most workers lived.
Archivist Martin Allan had received many questions the young people wanted to answer and had arranged for a comprehensive set of maps, photographs and wages books to be available to assist the quest for knowledge.
Local historian Robert McMonagle and Past Weaver Deacon Ron Scrimgeour were on hand to assist the young researchers with their tasks.
Over 100 documents were photographed and are now being analysed in greater detail.
