ANGUS MP Mike Weir and Perth and North Perthshire MP Pete Wishart recently marked the tenth anniversary of their election to Parliament.
Mr Weir and Mr Wishart were both elected to Parliament for the first time on June 7, 2001 and SNP staff at Westminster produced a spectacular cake to mark the occasion.
Upon being elected Mr Weir took up the old Angus seat while Mr Wishart took the North Tayside seat which included Brechin, Forfar and Kirriemuir. With the boundary changes in 2005 Mr Weir took on the Angus parts of North Tayside in the new expanded Angus seat whilst Mr Wishart was elected to the seat of Perth and North Perthshire.
Mr Weir said: “It has been a huge honour to represent Angus, where I was born and brought up, in Parliament for the last 10 years. During that time we have faced many challenges and no doubt will continue to face many in the years ahead.”
Mr Wishart added: “I have very fond memories of representing the burghs of Brechin, Forfar and Kirriemuir in my first term of Parliament and was very sorry to lose them in 2005.”
