WARM TRIBUTES PAID TO LOCAL TEENAGER
WARM tributes have been paid to a former Webster's High School pupil who was killed in an accident on his family's farm on Saturday (August 28).
Sixteen-year-old Callum Alexander Morrison was killed when the blue 50cc Aprilia motorcycle which he was riding was in collision with a grey coloured Range Rover at about 5.15 pm on the access road to Turfachie Farm, Memus.
The sole occupant of the Range Rover provided first aid and summoned the emergency services.
Police and paramedics attended the scene and administered first aid, but Callum sadly died at the scene.
The immediate area was closed to allow for an investigation to be carried out.
News of the popular lad's death spread quickly with his many friends posting moving tributes on the social networking website Facebook.
Staff and pupils at Webster's High School also remembered Callum at a special assembly for pupils in fourth, fifth and sixth year on Monday morning, led by Mr Donald Currie, depute head who was Callum's head in third and fourth year.
Popular teenager
He was full of praise for the popular teenager who left school at the end of last term to take up a place at college.
Mr Currie said: "Callum was just a great kid. The first thing you think of when you mention his name is that he was just a great boy. The first thing anyone would have noticed was the lovely smile on his face.
"He always had a warm grin and had a genuine, really sunny disposition.
"I taught Callum maths; he was a pleasure to have in the class. He was universally liked and you never heard anyone, staff or pupil, say a harsh word for or about him.
"Everyone got on well with him. The kids are devastated; some are big likely lads who play rugby, as did Callum, and they are in tears.
"We had an assembly first thing this morning for fourth, fifth and sixth year pupils who were close to Callum and a few found it extremely difficult.
"It was very emotional and we had a minute's silence to think about the boy he was and to try to think good thoughts and show some empathy with his family."
Mr Currie described Callum as a pupil who loved his rugby, his bike and agriculture.
"He was just great. He put me right on more than one occasion when I got my facts wrong, but not in a dogged natured way but in a pleasant, good natured way.
"We was just a great guy. You wouldn't wish this on anyone but when it's one of your real gems, as Callum was, then it's doubly tragic.
"I believe he was due to start college today which would have been a new beginning for him which has been cut short.
"The kids have paid tribute to Callum in their own way by setting up a Facebook page in his memory. I had a look at it this morning and there are upwards of 500 messages on it.
"They have picked up on his sunny disposition and his big smile as the first thing they remember - he was a genuinely nice guy."
Nice guy
Among the many tributes left on the Facebook site were comments including "you are going to be missed so much, take care up there" and "still can't believe you're gone. You were such a nice guy, never deserved to be taken from us."
Another wrote "such a good mate, gone but never forgotten" and another "I might not have known you too well but you were too much of a good guy to get taken like that."
Others mentioned his lovely smile with one friend writing "I'm gonna miss that cheeky wee smile of yours" whilst another added " You were such a smiley kid. You touched the hearts of all who knew you."
Tayside Police are interested to speak to anyone who may have seen the motorcycle or Range Rover prior to the collision.
Anyone who has information relative to the incident is asked contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222 or any police officer.
