Views sought for Academy campus

forfar residents are being encouraged to give their views on the proposed new community campus at Forfar Academy at two workshops to be held later this month.

Angus Council wants the views of local people on plans to create a £33.6 million Forfar Community Campus comprising a new secondary school and community hub.

Two workshops are to be held at the Academy at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20 and Wednesday, February 27, for parents/carers, community groups and local people.

The council has already submitted a successful bid for Scottish Government funding for the project to replace the current school which is recognised as being in a poor condition.

As well as a new school, the community campus proposal would see leisure facilities, including a new swimming pool, incorporated as part of the development.

The views expressed during the workshops will inform decisions about which facilities are to be included on this site, and to identify opportunities to work in partnership with the local community.

The council’s education spokesperson Councillor Sheena Welsh said: “I hope the people of Forfar and the surrounding area will take this opportunity to share their views on this proposal with us, so we can work together to develop first class educational and recreational facilities for the town.”

Comments can also be made online at www.angus.gov.uk/hys, or in writing to the Director of Education, Angus House, Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar, DD8 1AE.

Background information on the project is also available at www.angus.gov.uk/forfarcommunitycampus.

The £33.6m community campus would be located on the existing Forfar Academy site, and could be constructed by spring 2017. Details of the campus were outlined at last month’s meeting of the local authority’s education committee held in the Town and County Hall. One of the concerns raised at the meeting was access issues for the campus, with Angus Councillor Glennis Middleton asking council officers to take on board the views of local residents in Taylor Street.
