VANDALS SHOULD BE CONSTRUCTIVE, NOT DESTRUCTIVE

THE chairman of Forfar Community Council referred to gravestones which were toppled in the Newmonthill cemetery when the council met last Thursday evening.

Police were appealing for information as to how over a dozen memorials came to be damaged.

In her chairman's comments Mrs Ross stated it was not clear if the headstones had been damaged by frost or vandals.

She said: "If it was vandalism then I would ask those responsible to do something constructive, rather destructive.

"For those who visit the cemetery from time to time, this can be very upsetting."

On a happier note, she was pleased the Forfar Happit store had been saved from closure, securing four jobs in the town.
