TOP MUSICIANS AT FORFAR ACADEMY

THE Lowson Memorial Church was filled with the sound of music last week when Forfar Academy staged a Midsummer Concert and the finals of the annual Young Musician of the Year competition.

Six finalists battled it out for the coveted trophies, with the winners as follows:-

Junior competition - Ebern Cup - 1, Jessica Morton; 2, Gemma Geekie; 3, Gregory Rose.

Senior competition - William Bernard Trophy - 1, Nicholas Johnston; 2, Claire Butchart; 3, Kirsty Lynch.

The packed programme featured performances from the finalists as well as the school's concert band, junior choir, junior chamber choir, recorder group, cluster choir, the intermediate chamber choir, percussion ensemble, the senior chamber choir and the senior choir.

There were also performances from Ella Clapperton (voice) and a Gaelic duet from Mirren Wallace and Casey Watson.

A retiring collection was held to support the Scottish Motor Neuron Disease Association
