Top award for Forfar-based design team

AWARD WINNING DESIGN: The Apple House at Fasque, Fettercairn.

AWARD WINNING DESIGN: The Apple House at Fasque, Fettercairn.

A TEAM of Forfar-based architects has won a top architecture award.

@architects Scotland Ltd., was the team behind The Apple House at Fasque in Fettercairn which has just been voted the Best Conservation project by the Aberdeen Society of Architects.

The B-listed property dates back to 1792 and has been transformed from a state of ruin to a 21st century bridal suite for weddings on the estate.

Douglas and Heather Dick Reid, who purchased the 370 acre estate in July 2010, have so far spent more than £3 million renovating and restoring Fasque House and the 19 surrounding buildings, many of which are on the at risk register.

Architect Paul Fretwell from @architects Scotland Ltd. based in Forfar is delighted that the project has been recognised. He said: “The Apple House is an outstanding building in a unique setting with significant history and cultural value.

“Gaining recognition for the efforts that went into transforming the Apple House is very satisfying.

“Garden buildings of this type are few and far between so it is hugely important that we have secured its long term future by providing the building with a use, particularly on a commercial basis.”

Another derelict building on the estate, The Garden House, was also given a commendation at the awards ceremony for the residential and single house categories following its restoration in 2012 by the same architects.
