RYAN HITS HIGH NOTES IN BURNS FESTIVAL

THE national Bard was celebrated in Forfar on Saturday when the Forfar Literary Institute held the annual Burns Festival in St Margaret's Church Hall.

The adjudicators on the day were Mrs Judey Struth for verse speaking, and Mrs Isobel Slater for the singing classes.

The trophy winners were Ryan Kopel (singing) and Ross Brown (verse speaking), with Ryan picking up the William C. Cook Trophy.

The other prize-winners were as follows:-

Verse speaking:

Class 8, primary 4 and 5, Forfar only - 1, Ross Brown; 2, Joanne Whyte; 3, Kirsten Cramond.

Class 10, primary 6 and 7 Forfar only - 1, Heather Robertson; 2, Lucy Richardson; 3, Lara Mertes.

Singing:

Class 1, primary 4 and 5 open - 1, Beth Christie.

Class 3, primary 6 and 7 open - 1, Blair Ruxton; 2, Siobhan Murray; 3, Jack Wilkie.

Class 5, secondary under 15 - 1, Ryan Kopel.
