Report any drug activity

POLICE officers in Forfar are urging local people to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity in the wake of the discovery of a major cannabis cultivation in the Forfar area.

Speaking at this month’s meeting of Forfar Community Council, Community Liaison Officer Constable Ally Smith told members that residents are asked that if they suspect such activity is, or may be, ongoing, they let the Police know.

He said: “We also remind local residents that they can report any type of drug dealing within their community to any police officer in confidence.

“They can also telephone and leave information anonymously to Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or complete the Ditch the Dealer response leaflet.”

Constable Smith added: “Any information received will be treated in strict confidence and will be acted upon.

“Please be vigilant in relation to discarded drugs paraphernalia and if any is found please report this to Angus Council Access officer or Tayside Police.”

Constable Smith told the meeting that, between April and December 2012, there was a reduction in serious crime in Angus compared to the same period in 2011.

In his report he said: “There was also a reduction in the number of housebreaking to domestic dwellings, although an increase in both commercial and domestic non-dwelling (sheds and outbuildings etc.) was experienced. During the same period, there was a slight increase in the number of vandalism reported across the local authority area. There has been an increase in the number of crimes of fraud reported across the county - this is replicated in the other Tayside counties.”
