Recent community grants awarded by Angus Council

THE FOLLOWING grants have been approved by Angus Council’s infrastructure services committee.

The Kirriemuir Landward East Community Council was awarded £870 towards hall hire and lunch as part of the unveiling ceremony of the new sculpture at Glen Prosen.

The award was granted as a reflection of the hard work made to bring this project to fruition.

A grant of £422 was awarded to the Forfar Fair Trade Forum to go towards costs of a fashion show to raise their profile in the town.

The group’s main activities are to promote Fair Trade within the town.

The fashion show brought people together to focus on Fair Trade and encouraged more people to join in with the Fair Trade Movement.

Money was awarded to the group as it was felt that they did not have the reserves that would allow them to run the event without grant funding.

The Angus Toy Appeal was granted £1,000 towards purchasing toys for needy children in Angus at Christmas.

Running since 1994, the Angus Toy Appeal provide new and good quality used toys at Christmas.

Toys are distributed to between 300 and 500 children every year depending on the amount of referrals received.

Friockheim and Kinnell Parish Church received £995.74 to go twards the installation of Wi-Fi, laptops and additonal console games for a drop-in centre for youngsters ages 11 to 15.

The drop-in centre is a new initiative linked to the church and has had a good response from young people in the community.

Figures provided by the group suggest that they will be self-sufficient in terms of running costs but they have no reserves to help them with running costs.
