POSSIBLE OFFICE USE FOR CHAPELPARK PRIMARY SCHOOL?

AS the future of one former Forfar primary school site seems to have been decided, it has been revealed the former Chapelpark Primary School building could be turned into office accommodation for the local authority.

Observers have noticed some activity at the Academy Street school, which started out as the original Forfar Academy building.

Its role as a school ended when the doors at Chapelpark Primary School closed in 2008 as part of the 50m Forfar/Carnoustie Schools project.

A change to the town's catchment areas resulted in Forfar's four schools becoming three, with the closure of Chapelpark and Wellbrae Primary schools to be replaced by Whitehills Primary School, the creation of Strathmore Primary at Kirkriggs and the building of a new school on the Langlands' site.

Last week we reported Angus Council had paved the way for the former Wellbrae Primary School to be developed for housing.

Following the closure of the school in 2007, the site went on the open market but attracted only one declaration of interest.

At a meeting of Angus corporate services two weeks ago, committee members agreed to accept a 280,000 offer from Taylor Shepherd Homes, subject to the developer gaining planning permission for 12 residential properties on the site.

When contacted on Monday regarding any possible use for Chapelpark Primary School, a spokesperson for Angus Council said: "The council is exploring the potential use of the old Chapelpark school building as office accommodation."
