Positive follow up report for Academy

MELVYN Lynch, head teacher at Forfar Academy, has notified parents of a recent HMI school inspection follow through report produced by Angus Council’s education department.

In a newsletter sent out to parents last week, he highlighted the “very positive” report and comments on a number of areas. These included: “The school has been effective in addressing the action points of the published report and is well placed to continue to improve.”

In light of the report Angus Council will make no further reports in connection with the inspection which was carried out in December 2009.

The local authority report found the particular strengths of the school were the very positive ethos and relationships between staff and young people; staff who work together as a team and lead aspects of school improvement; and confident, articulate young people who value the school and the community.

It found the school is increasingly successful in promoting a culture of achievement and improved attainment, setting high standards of behaviour and attendance. All principal teachers felt there is open access to a very supportive senior management team.

Commenting Mr Lynch said: “I would like to thank staff and pupils for their efforts over the past year in successfully addressing the various action points noted by HMIE at the time of the inspection. The report also offers advice on ways in which the school can further improve in some areas. Staff and pupils will continue to work together, supported by parents/carers and the wider community, to deliver the quality of school experience we aim to provide for all our young people at Forfar Academy.”
