Opportunity for local suppliers

CONSENT is currently being sought for a wind farm development north of Alyth.

Edinburgh-based developer RDS Element Power is looking to site a seven-turbine development at Tullymurdoch Wind Farm.

Tullymurdoch is one of a number of wind farm sites that RDS Element Power is proposing to develop in Scotland.

Should Tullymurdoch and other sites be given the go ahead, RDS Element Power is keen to ensure that as much of the construction work as possible is tendered for by local and Scottish-based companies.

A vast range of services are required when a wind farm is built and so local companies were invited to a meeting on January 31 at Alyth Town Hall to find out about the opportunities wind farms can bring to the local area.

Firms represented included civil engineers, fencers, specialist concrete suppliers, construction and drainage companies, film and documentary makers and caterers.

Some suppliers have already registered their interest and RDS Element Power will maintain contact with them should consent be given.

Companies that have registered will be kept updated on the development schedule, and will be offered guidance on the tender process plus any certification required to take advantage of this significant investment in the local economy.

Douglas Hendry, director of the project from RDS Element Power said: “We are delighted to have contact with companies locally with a potential to tender for work related to wind farm construction.

“This is in line with our intention to see the largest possible proportion of project spend going into local economy.”
