WEBSTER’S High School pupil Nicola Ewart is planning a summer to remember this year when she travels to South Africa to live and work with youngsters in one of the nation’s underprivileged communities.

Nicola (17) has been chosen as one of a select group of Project Trust volunteers after she attended a selection process on the island of Coll.

She will return to the west coast island in July to meet the Project Trust partners she will be going with, and learn more about the challenge.

Nicola, from South Kingennie, is now working hard to raise the £5,000 she requires to make the trip - and has already got £2,000 in the pot.

She said: “I will be helping with the education of underprivileged children, preparing them for school, teaching in the school and supporting them within the community learning environment. In return I’m looking forward to the incomparable and intimate experience I will get from living within their community. I’m really excited and a little bit nervous. It will be incredible.”

Nicola has had a good response from a number of local businesses and is hoping for online donations through the uk.virginmoneygiving.com/nicolaewart fundraising web page. A British eventing competitor and Angus Pony Club games team member for the past decade, Nicola is also holding a race night for her riding pals and other supporters as a at Forthill Rugby Club, Broughty Ferry on March 24.
