MP continues his campaign

Angus MP Mike Weir has met with representatives of Consumer Focus to pursue his campaign on the dangers of self disconnection by consumers on prepayment energy meters.

Mr Weir has previously raised the matter in Parliamentary questions.

Commenting on the meeting Mr Weir said it was very productive with some good ideas of how to take the campaign forward.

He said: “All consumers are suffering from high energy prices at present, but many of those on pre payment meters face additional problems.

“Consumer Focus have produced an excellent report “Cutting back, cutting down and cutting off” on the issues of self disconnection and self rationing of energy. I am deeply concerned that there appears to be a lack of knowledge in government on the extent of the problem.

“The current process of rolling out smart meters across the country gives an excellent opportunity for energy companies and government to identify vulnerable consumers and to ensure that they are made aware of what help is available.”
