MOSAIC FEATURE FOR KIRRIE PARK ENTRANCE

THE people of Kirriemuir have been invited to help put together a Peter Pan themed mosaic to mark the 150th birthday of Kirrie playwright J. M. Barrie.

As part of improvements to Kirriemuir Hill, Angus Council commissioned local artist and teacher Maureen Crosbie to work with locals and create a special piece of art for the new park entrance.

The obelisk-like structure will have four faces, each sporting designs devised by primary school pupils from the Kirriemuir cluster area.

With the designs in place, all that remains is to put the mosaic together, and Maureen is keen to see the whole community get involved.

She said: "I've been going to to the schools to get some images, so the mosaic is a mix of images from the imagination of the kids and of the traditions of Peter Pan.

"What we're now hoping is that people from all age groups in the community come and help put the mosaic together.

"This isn't just for the children. It's really the community that owns it so we want the community to come along and help put together the finished product."

When finished, the Peter Pan feature will depict four scenes, one with Peter Pan himself, another with Tinkerbell and the Fairies, one with Captain Hook and the fourth the Lost Boys.

Anyone interested in helping put the mosaics together should go to Fairlie House, Kirkton Hill on August 21, 22, 28 and 29 from 10am-3pm, when children, parents and other local residents of all ages can take part.

Children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult and youngsters between 11 and 16 years require to fill in a consent form.

Maureen said: "You don't have to be artistic as such, it's effectively painting by numbers.

"There's nothing else like it in the area and it is something that you could come back to in years to come and say 'I helped put this together.'"

You can get more information on the final stages of putting together the mosaic by phoning 01575 572225, while forms are available from Kirriemuir ACCESS office and the local library as from Wednesday, July 21.
