THE SALVATION Army in Forfar has received a most welcome donation from Mr Mark Guild of Guild Homes (Tayside) Ltd.
Mr Guild donated £1,000 to the charity on Friday morning with Major Jim McCluskey accepting the cheque at the Forfar base on Chapel Street.
The Salvation Army has had unprecedented calls for its services to vulnerable people in Angus over the festive period.
Major McCluskey said: “The recent spell of wintry weather stretched the army’s resources to the limit. Although conditions were difficult, the army has still managed to provide services to older people ensuring that they had what was required to ensure their well-being and that a watchful eye was kept on them during the severe winter weather.”
Mr Guild, who has donated more that £50,000 to causes in Angus since 1997, thought it was only right to help the charity out as he knew money donated would help those in the local community.
He said: “The Salvation Army are able to get the money we’ve donated to the right people and it’s just something we wanted to do. It’s giving something back to the community because without them we wouldn’t be here.”
Mr Guild added: “We have to remember that the older people in our community have served us well.”
The festive season resulted in many challenges for the Salvation Army because more people sought help with toys and food parcels.
Despite the challenges, the charity made sure that all requests were met ensuring a happy Christmas for those who sought help.
Older people were provided with meals and gifts across the county and visits were made to those who perhaps otherwise could have been lonely.
Major McCluskey added: “We were satisfied at being able to meet the challenges head on and are continuing to offer help and support to the more vulnerable members of our community.
“We could not do this without the practical and financial support of both staff and volunteers and those who have provided the funds to allow us to carry out our work.
“Organisations such as Guild Homes, Forfar Academy, The Royal British Legion, Forfar Branch, individuals, local churches, Forfar Rotary Club are to be congratulated for their unprecedented financial support of our work. Without them we could not do what we do.”
