LOUISE ON COURSE TO HIT JAMBOREE TARGET

YOU have to admire the determination of Forfar Girl Guide Louise Cromar and her efforts to fund her way to the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden next year.

For last Thursday the 13-year-old ran, biked and swam her way to raising almost 500 towards the 1,550 needed to send her to the 22nd World Scout Jamboree 2011.

The jamboree only happens every four years and is held in different countries throughout the world.

Next year it will be held in Sweden with Louise selected as one of the nine Guides from the whole of Scotland to attend this very special event.

To start her fund-raising in earnest she held a candle party at the Strathmore Rugby Club which raised 792.

Her funds were further boosted from her solo effort last Thursday evening when she ran three miles round the Benzil in 27 minutes, 21 seconds, biked twice round the same route in 33 minutes, 22 seconds before heading to the evening session of JAWS swimming club in Forfar pool when she swam an incredible 72 lengths, or one mile in total, in 43 minutes.

On Thursday her ten-mile triathlon was set to raise 487, bringing her close to her 1,550 target.

The Scout jamboree is a once in a lifetime experience as only those aged between 14 and 16 can attend.

Louise attended three selection days/weekends and was lucky enough to have been chosen.

However, the event cannot be paid for by parents; every Guide has to raise the money individually through fund-raising and sponsoring, thus giving every girl the same opportunity.

There will be 38,000 people attending the jamboree, which runs for eight days, after which the participants go into home hospitality in either Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia or Poland.
