LIPPEN CARE CONTINUES TO ACHIEVE ITS TARGETS
DETAILS of how Lippen Care is achieving its goal of upholding the high standard and comfort for the benefit of patients at the Strathmore Hospice were outlined to members at the charity's annual general meeting last week.
In her report chairman Moira Nicoll said that, after receiving genuine feedback from families, she was glad to report they appeared to be achieving their goal.
She said: "Our training of nurses and doctors in palliative care continues and we also fund 50 per centre of the Lippen Care Clinical Lead for Palliative Care in Angus and will continue to fund this for the next two years.
"Lippen Care has also purchased beds and various equipment for the use of palliative patients in their own homes if this is their wish and financially backed a new concept - "Just in Case boxes"".
She said Lippen Care continues to receive great support from members, local people and organisations, from birthday parties, anniversaries, cycle runs and car derbys, to name a few.
"Our Community Involvement Committee also organise events and my sincere thanks go to everyone involved in giving their time and enthusiasm on these occasions because, without them, we would fall at the first hurdle."
In her manager's report, Marion Hood spoke of another year in the story of Lippen Care and the Strathmore Hospice's fifth year since opening in April 2005.
She said: "Strathmore Hospice continues to be busy, providing the highest quality of care.
"The good relationship between volunteers and staff is maintained due to an appreciation, by both staff and volunteers, of the complementary nature of the work performed."
She reported on another good year for volunteering, stating the charity owed a huge debt of gratitude to all 67 enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers.
From April 2009 to March 2010, volunteers spent 1,479 hours serving afternoon teas, 3,010 hours working in the shop, 158 tending the gardens, 190 hours providing complementary therapies, 511 hours carrying out ward reception duties and 109 from student ward volunteers.
She continued: "Let's not forget the time given by the ladies of Kirriemuir Floral Art Club, the volunteers who continue to fund raise through various events, and those who hold festive craft classes."
She was delighted to report seven enthusiastic volunteers have undergone training for the new hospital visitor/befriender service.
