GUIDE DOGS ON SEARCH FOR BURIED TREASURE
STAFF at the Forfar Guide Dog Training School are on the lookout for hidden treasure.
They are appealing for supporters to dig deep and hunt out "treasure" which can be recycled to raise valuable funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
For years the charity has raised hundreds of pounds by recycling stamps, but last year phased out the stamp collections.
Lisa Fairweather, senior fundraising assistant explained: "Though stamp recycling has enabled us to raise significant funding over the years to support our worthy cause, unfortunately it is no longer cost effective.
"The costs associated with the collection, storage, sorting and selling now outweigh the income received
"We know the time spent, and the resources used, could further enhance our income if focused on other fundraising initiatives."
To take the place of stamps, and to offer Guide Dog supporters other ways of supporting the charity, they have launched an exciting new recycling scheme called Treasure Hunt.
Lisa continued: "We are asking you to search through your cupboards and drawers at home and see if you can make a donation of any of the following items - old, used or unwanted jewellery, costume jewellery, watches (any condition), keys, foreign coins and banknotes.
"However large or small, they will be gratefully received and turned into valuable funds for Guide Dogs to help blind and partially-sighted people regain their independence."
Guide Dogs can provide a Treasure Hunt collection box and posters for schools, offices or businesses, all you need to do is encourage your friends and work colleagues to donate as much 'treasure' as they can find.

Since Guide Dogs began its treasure hunt scheme they have raised 45,000 - each individual box can raise on average 60.
Christopher Rink, district fundraiser said: "This is a great way of saving the environment whilst also generating much needed funds for a much loved charity.
"Guide Dogs receives no government or statutory funding and are reliant on the generosity of the general public to fund its life changing service".
Guide Dogs also carry out inkjet and mobile phone recycling.
