Grants boost for village halls

VILLAGE halls throughout Angus are benefiting from grants made by the Angus Environmental Trust which funds various projects through The Landfill Communities Fund.

Earlier this year the Board of Directors comprising a nominee from Angus Council, Angus College, Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Natural Heritage agreed to extend the remit of the Trust and consider applications from community groups with regard to renewable energy and energy efficiency projects to assist with the improvement of village halls across Angus.

Roy Madden, chairman has announced grants have so far been awarded to seven projects with a total value just under £70,000. The range of projects supported has been diverse, with the highest value being match funding of approximately £19,000 to Eassie, Nevay and Kirkinch Community Hub for the renewable system for the new facility. Among the other recipients are Aberlemno Village Hall, Murroes Communtiy Hall and Monikie War Memorial Hall with grants ranging between £2,500 and £15,000 to improve the insulation qualities.

The most recent grant was to The Retreat in Glenesk for works to improve the viability and benefit of their existing renewable system.

The Trust would be pleased to receive further applications for community led projects of this type as well as projects to provide improvements to other types of public amenities.

These range from works to improve the external environs of village halls, improvements to parks, and path and access projects on both a small or medium scale, works to other types of public amenities will also be considered.

Funding is also available for conservation and biodiversity projects. If you are looking for guidance or for the mechanism to undertake improvements to an area near you, for the benefit of the Community, contact The Trust Administrator on 01307 473334 or email phillipsge@angus.gov.uk
