GALA WEEK ACTIVITIES AT ST JOHN'S
THE rector and congregation of St. John's Episcopal Church in Forfar are gearing up for their participation in this year's Forfar Gala Week.
The church will be open daily from Monday to Saturday, June 22 to 27 from 10 am to 4 pm.
Members will be on hand to welcome visitors and to help them find their way around the information displayed at all the significant and historical features of the building.
There will also be a special exhibition of photographs of baptisms which have been celebrated in St. John's over the years. Teas and coffees will be available throughout.
On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of next week, at 12.30 pm., there will be music recitals involving Richard Evans on organ and clarinet (Tuesday), Robert Lightband on organ with Alistair Allan on bass (Thursday) and Neil Smeaton on organ and trumpet (Saturday).
On Wednesday at 2 pm the pupils of the Gaelic medium class at Whitehills Primary School will present a short programme of songs, readings and recitations.
Admission to all of these events is free, although donations will be gratefully accepted.
A major new event this year will be an accordion evening on Saturday, June 27. Sandy Mortimer and his band will play a selection of music and Mr David Pullar will show some of his collection of accordions old and new, including Jimmy Shand's celebrated 'gold accordion'.
Admission price for this event is 10 (includes a wine reception at 7 pm, with a buffet supper after the entertainment.
