FORFAR MAN KILLED IN MIDDLE EAST ACCIDENT
A 62-year-old Forfar man has been killed in a tragic accident in the Middle East.
Kenneth (Ken) Brechin was badly injured in a collision with a taxi in a busy Dubai Street last Tuesday evening.
He was rushed to hospital, but never regained consciousness, and passed away on Thursday morning.
Born, brought-up and educated in Forfar, Mr Brechin joined the Royal Navy when he left school at the age of 15 and, following a short spell back in his native Forfar, he then went on to enjoy a long career in the oil industry.
He took up a position as a diver in the North Sea in the early seventies, and his career took him all over the world, including the South China Sea.
For the past 15 years Mr Brechin had been working in the Middle East, mainly in Dubai as a commercial dive supervisor.
Son Darren, who resides in Forfar, said that arrangements were being made to fly Mr Brechin's body back to this country later this week.
A funeral service is to be held at Parkgrove Crematorium, Friockheim, early next week, then, in accordance with Mr Brechin's wishes, his ashes are to be scattered at sea.
Mr Brechin is also survived by two brothers and a sister, who reside in Forfar, and another brother, who is in Australia.
