Fairytale with a twist from youth theatre

Forfar Dramatic Society’s youth theatre is about to start rehearsals for its next show, which the members insist will be both familiar and unique – a fairytale with a twist.

There will be recognisable settings and well established stage conventions, but the plot line will be new, as familiar fairytale characters appear in strange places and encounter protagonists from outwith their own storylines.

Rehearsals begin on Sunday (January 13) at 6.15 p.m., in the society’s clubrooms at 132 East High Street, Forfar.

All young people between the ages of 11 and 16 are welcome to go along and take part. No prior experience is needed, but those wishing to be involved must be interested in drama and willing to commit to regular weekly rehearsals between January and March.

The production, which will use an original script, draws on a number of theatre styles including pantomime, comedy and traditional story telling. And who knows, there may be a bit of tragedy mixed in there too.

Whatever the final mix, the show will be entertaining for people of all ages and will once again demonstrate the energy and creativity young people bring to theatre. There will be opportunities for members of the group to act and to contribute to other aspects of the show including music and live sound effects.

Anyone interested in taking part should go along at 6.15 p.m. on Sunday or email forfardramatic@live.co.uk for more information.
