THE FORFAR Resource Store has had an amazing response since the appeal for household items in the Dispatch and Herald at the beginning of January.
Ann Nicoll, the manager at the charity, said: “All of us at the Forfar Resource Store would like to say a great big thank you to everyone who has donated the items as they are all put to good use. We are grateful for any and all donations that we receive.”
The back office, which has never been needed for storage, is now healthily-stocked with a selection of duvets, pillows and towels.
She added: “We have never had a response like it. We have had to start filling the unused back office with items as there has just been a constant flow. It has been great, it’s certainly keeping us busy!”
The items donated are put for sale for the general public but are also used for creating starter packs for those moving into accommodation after a period of homelessness and contain necessary items for people moving into a home with useful items such as bedding, towels, dishes, pots and pans, cleaning materials such as toilet cleaner, multi-purpose cleaner and furniture polish as well as a kettle, toaster, microwave and an iron.
Ann said: “We are most grateful to the public for donating good-quality items that can be recycled.
“We accept furniture, dishes, bedding, curtains, ornaments, electrical items, in fact anything that is needed to make a house a home. Items we have distributed to our clients include crockery, cutlery, clothing, bedding, soft furnishings, carpets, electrical goods, toys, garden tools, furniture and household items.”
Councillor Glennis Middleton, the chairperson of the Forfar Resource Store for 15 years, said: “I would like to say an absolutely heartfelt thank you to everyone who supports the Forfar Resource Store, we have had an absolutely remarkable response. We are so grateful for the donations as it allows us to continue to help those in need.”
She added: “We hope people feel able to continue to support us over the coming year.”
The charity accepts donations of anything that can be used by anyone else as long as it is in reasonable condition; for example suites must carry a fire label.
The store sells a variety of good quality used furniture with items such as sofas, cookers, microwaves and other kitchen appliances, ornaments, children’s toys and garden equipment.
