EILEEN'S MARATHON EFFORT FOR CHARITY
FORFAR Road Runner Eileen Jackson has set herself the personal challenge of completing the Great North Run in two weeks time in under two hours, whilst raising as much money as possible for Cancer Research U.K.
The early years and child care officer with Angus Council's education department is well on the way with her training schedule, having successfully completed the Great Scottish Half Marathon in Glasgow last Sunday in a time of one hour, 57 minutes.
As well as fitting in her training, she has also organised a ladies shopping evening which takes place this Friday in the Royal British Legion in Academy Street.
It runs from 7 pm to 10 pm, 2 entry at the door which includes a chance to win a Pamper Hamper.
Eileen (38) has put together a wide selection of items for sale from bags and body shop goods to candles and complementary therapies.
She is hoping for a good turnout on the evening and is also looking for sponsorship for her next run on Sunday, September 19.
She said: "I am taking part in the 30th Great North Run half marathon at Newcastle in aid of Cancer Research, a charity which touches the lives of many and is very close to my heart.
"This year the race is rather special given that it is in its 30th year. I plan to dress up as a fairy!
"As with all charity places I have a minimum sponsorship to collect. As well as training for race day I have been undertaking a number of fund-raising initiatives including car boot sales, reflexology treatments and on Friday evening I am holding a shopping evening.
"I have had fantastic support from friends and family so far and wish to thank them for their support. I train with fellow Forfar Road Runners who have pushed me on and given me many tips which are very helpful on race days!
"I will continue to drive forward my fund raising from now until September 19 via my just giving webpage at http://www.runningsponsorme.org/eileenjackson1
Eileen has only recently been "bitten by the running bug" again after doing a lot of running and cross country at school.
She said: "I lost interest in running but have really got back into it in the last four years. Sunday was the third time I had done the Great Scottish Run and I did the Edinburgh one in May.
"I am quite serious about my running now, it is quite addictive. This is the first time I've done two half marathons in a short space of time and I am hoping to complete the Great North run in under two hours."
