Early retirement for council chief officers

ANGUS Council has approved the early retirement of six chief officers.

The applications for early retirement from the directors of Corporate Services, Education, Infrastructure Services, Neighbourhood Services and Social Work and Health, and the assistant chief executive were approved by the council’s Strategic Policy Executive Sub-Committee last Wednesday.

The retirements will come into effect on March 31, 2013.

The one-off cost to the council of the early retirements, which have been agreed in accordance with the council’s Early Retirement/Voluntary Redundancy Scheme, will be £672,000 with ongoing annual savings of £358,000 delivered in future years. The council is moving to a new three department structure - People, Communities and Resources - on April 1, 2013.

Alan McKeown the council’s current head of housing has been appointed as the new Strategic Director – Communities. The remaining two strategic directors’ posts, People and Resources, are currently being advertised.
