Designate a driver when going out

WITH the party season in full swing, Tayside Police has issued a timely reminder about the Angus Designated Driver scheme.

This scheme has a very straightforward message – always designate a driver before you plan your night out.

It sits perfectly within the Scottish Police Service’s annual campaign to remove drink and drug drivers from our roads.

Constable Ally Smith, Community Liaison officer for Tayside Police, spoke of the initiative at this month’s meeting of Forfar Community Council.

He said: “Each year in Scotland, thousands of people lose their licence after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It is hoped initiatives such as the designated drivers scheme can assist in reducing those numbers by encouraging all drivers to be responsible road users and to not drink and drive.”

Premises wishing to take part in the Angus Designated Driver Scheme and to receive free publicity materials should call Forfar 477476. Drivers were also reminded to be prepared for winter driving conditions.
