SCHOOLS and groups throughout the Forfar and Kirriemuir area went Comic Relief crazy on Friday in support of the annual Red Nose Day.
In this, the 25th anniversary year, there were a variety of fund-raising ventures, from baking and funny hair days to a sponsored silence.
Pupils at Webster’s High School in Kirriemuir held a “dress as you please” day on Friday, rounding off a hectic fortnight’s fund-raising with the grand total of £2,015.37 going to Comic Relief.
Their efforts included a visit to the school last Tuesday of popular comedian Daniel Sloss and Charlotte Rowland of Comic Relief.
Their visit coincided with a talent contest at the school and the pair spoke about the work of Comic Relief.
Prior to their visit, the school had run a Sumo wrestling competition for sixth years and their teachers.
Head girl Kerry Hood explained: “Claire Taylor, who died last November, was my best friend, so we wanted to do something to raise funds for Comic Relief as Claire and I use to go to comedy gigs together.
“Claire also loved baking, so we did a “Great Webster’s Bake Off and we sold the cakes at lunch time.
“We also got a cake donated by James Morton, who won the Great British Bake Off, which we auctioned last Tuesday. It was bought by Daniel for £120. We raised £900 on Friday with our “dress as you please” day which gave a total of £2,015.37.”
At Northmuir Primary, staff and pupils had a “funny hair do” day, while at the Wendyhouse Nursery in Kirrie, events included “bathing in beans”.
There were cupcakes galore at Eassie Primary School whilst Northmuir Primary five pupil Arran Anderson invited fellow pupils and teachers to sponsor him to keep quiet for the whole day!
Arran was very proud to have raised a total of £36.95 for Comic Relief and said: “I found it really, really hard not to talk; my teachers thought it was great that I was finally quiet!”
